WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Shaheen and Gordon reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on or around April 17, 2024, Shaheen and Gordon’s became aware that one of its lawyer’s accounts was the target of a phishing attack. As a result, Shaheen and Gordon launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Shaheen and Gordon learned that sensitive personal information in the lawyer’s account may have been compromised by an unauthorized individual between April 16 and April 17, 2024. As a result, Shaheen and Gordon began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Government issued identification card number (e.g., driver’s license or passport number)
On October 3, 2024, Shaheen and Gordon began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, Shaheen and Gordon is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
