Test Products Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Test Products, Inc. (“TPI”), regarding its recent data breach. The TPI data breach may have involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT TEST PRODUCTS, INC.:

TPI is an electrical testing equipment supplier based in Michigan. Founded in 1986, TPI designs and manufactures test systems for the automotive industry.2 Today, TPI’s services have grown to include engineering, manufacturing, assembly, custom software and hardware design, prototype development, and real-time web-based reporting.2 Headquartered in Sterling Heights, Michigan, TPI employs over 50 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, TPI reported to the Attorney General of New Hampshire that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on March 19, 2024, TPI detected unauthorized third-party access to its systems via a sophisticated ransomware attack.1 As a result, TPI launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

TPI learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized individual during the attack. As a result, TPI began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On September 23, 2024, TPI completed this review. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by TPI. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or other government identification number
  • Account number, credit or debit card number, in combination with any required security code, access code, or password that would permit access to an individual’s financial account

 

On October 10, 2024, TPI began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to New Hampshire residents, TPI is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
