WHAT HAPPENED?
On October 8, 2024, CreditRiskMonitor reported to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on July 19, 2024, CreditRiskMonitor detected unauthorized activity within its computer network. Upon becoming aware of the issue, CreditRiskMonitor launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, CreditRiskMonitor learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized individual between July 8 and July 17, 2024. As a result, CreditRiskMonitor began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. As of October 8, 2024, the exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by CreditRiskMonitor. However, CreditRiskMonitor reported that the personal identifiable information impacted belonged to its employees and independent contractors.
On October 8, 2024, CreditRiskMonitor began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice filed with the SEC, CreditRiskMonitor is providing affected individuals with 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
