Founded in 1999, ServiceChannel provides a SaaS platform that provides real-time, data-driven visibility over business-critical assets, service providers and spend, driving growth for its customer organizations.3 Today, ServiceChannel serves over 600 businesses across a variety of industries, including retail, restaurants, convenience stores, grocery stores, finance and banking, healthcare, storage and logistics, government and municipal properties, education, housing, transportation, and more.3 In 2021, ServiceChannel was acquired by Fortive Corporation, a global technology company based in Washington.4 Headquartered in Pleasanton, California, ServiceChannel employs over 200 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, ServiceChannel reported to the Attorney General of Vermont that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, in October and November 2023, ServiceChannel detected unusual activity within its network environment stemming from cybersecurity incidents involving two separate unauthorized third parties.1 Upon becoming aware of the issue, ServiceChannel launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, ServiceChannel learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized individual between January 25, 2023, and November 6, 2023. As a result, ServiceChannel began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On September 3, 2024, ServiceChannel concluded this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license or state-issued identification card number
- Passport number
- Birth certificate number
- Financial information (e.g., account number, credit or debit card number)
- Health insurance information
On October 3, 2024, ServiceChannel began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Vermont residents, ServiceChannel is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
