WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Comcast reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it’s former vendor, FBCS, had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to Comcast in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on February 26, 2024, FBCS discovered unauthorized activity within certain systems in its network. As a result, FBCS launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, FBCS learned that sensitive personal information belonging to Comcast in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized individual between February 14 and February 26, 2024. As a result, FBCS began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. In July 2024, FBCS completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Comcast account number
  • FBCS ID numbers

On August 16, 2024, Comcast began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Comcast is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
