Today, these services include accounting, tax planning, business consulting, payroll services & financial planning.3 Additionally, Allied has experience in many lines of work and industries, including health insurance, construction, retail, restaurants, funeral homes, technology and real estate.3 Headquartered in Rochester, New York, Allied has four additional locations in New York and employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Allied reported to the Attorney General of Vermont that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, On June 22, 2024, Allied became aware of suspicious activity within its network environment. As a result, Allied launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Allied discovered that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized individual using an employee’s email account and its tax preparation software.1 As a result, Allied began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On August 26, 2024, Allied completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Financial account information
On October 4, 2024, Allied began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Vermont residents, Allied is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
