WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Zeiger reported to the Attorney General of Vermont that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on July 17, 2024, Zeiger learned that certain computer files in our environment were copied by a threat actor and the database was encrypted.1 As a result, Zeiger launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Zeiger confirmed that the threat actor gained access to a limited number of systems and accessed files within. As a result, Zeiger began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Address and/or phone number

 

On September 18, 2024, Zeiger began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Vermont residents, Zeiger is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
