Additionally, Tuttle-Click locations offer car service and repairs, from routine service to major repairs, and helps customers obtain car parts and accessories.3 Headquartered in Irvine, California, Tuttle-Click has additional locations across California and employs over 500 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Tuttle-Click reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on December 5, 2023, Tuttle-Click identified suspicious activity within its computer network and that certain systems were encrypted by malware.1 As a result, Tuttle-Click launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Tuttle-Click determined that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized actor between November 24, 2023, and December 5, 2023. As a result, Tuttle-Click began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On September 3, 2024, Tuttle-Click completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
On September 19, 2024, Tuttle-Click began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Tuttle-Click is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
