Founded in 2008, Sono Bello offers a wide array of procedures, including fat removal, tummy tucks, excess skin removal, laser fat removal, breast augmentation, cellulite reduction, and liposuction. Today, Sono Bello surgeons have performed over 300,000 laser liposuction and body contouring procedures.2 Headquartered in Kirkland, Washington, Sono Bello has over 100 locations across the United States and employs over 1,000 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Sono Bello reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, Sono Bello recently discovered that an unauthorized individual had gained access to an employee’s email account.1 As a result, Sono Bello launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Sono Bello learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized individual using an employee’s email account between May 14 and May 16, 2024. As a result, Sono Bello began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
On September 11, 2024, Sono Bello began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, Sono Bello is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
