WHAT HAPPENED?
On September 13, 2024, Express provided notice on its website that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on or about June 21, 2024, Express identified suspicious activity in an email account.1 As a result, Express launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Express learned that an unauthorized actor gained access to two email accounts and copied some data between May 7 and June 20, 2024. As a result, Express began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Financial information
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
On September 13, 2024, Express began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, Express is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
