NCP is an addiction treatment organization based in Massachusetts. Founded in 1968, NCP is a residential facility for substance addiction treatment providing treatment to adult males.2 Today, NCP offers a variety of treatment options, including its intensive treatment program, halfway house program, multiphase program, NCP criminal justice program, graduate house, and MASH certified sober house. Headquartered in Norton, Massachusetts, NCP employs over 40 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, NCP reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on May 16, 2024, NCP discovered suspicious activity within its network environment. As a result, NCP launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, NCP learned that sensitive personal information may have been compromised by an unauthorized actor during the incident. As a result, NCP began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On August 12, 2024, NCP concluded this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Medical information (e.g., treatment plan, medication information, provider notes)
- Health insurance information
On August 30, 2024, NCP began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notices provided to Massachusetts residents, NCP is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
