Elyria Foundry Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Elyria Foundry Holdings, LLC (“Elyria”) regarding its recent data breach. The Elyria data breach may have involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 2,100 individuals.

ABOUT ELYRIA FOUNDRY HOLDINGS, LLC:

Elyria is a casting manufacturing company based in Ohio. Founded in 1905, Elyria is a leading manufacturer of large gray and ductile iron specialty castings, ranging from 50 to 200,000 pounds.3 While maintaining a strong presence in the global mining, energy and industrial markets, Elyria’s diverse capabilities are regularly applied in the manufacturing of castings for a variety of end applications and markets.3 Headquartered in Elyria, Ohio, Elyria has an additional location in Greenville, Pennsylvania, and employs over 200 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Elyria reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on June 25, 2024, Elyria discovered unusual activity within its computer network. As a result, Elyria launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Elyria learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and copied by an unauthorized actor between June 24 and June 25, 2024. As a result, Elyria began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On August 1, 2024, Elyria completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number

 

On September 3, 2024, Elyria mailed data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Elyria is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
