KinetX Data Breach Investigation

ABOUT KINETX, INC.:
KinetX is a privately held aerospace engineering company based in Arizona. Founded in 1992, KinetX provides engineering, software, and hardware solutions for a wide variety of industries, including aerospace, telecommunications, space navigation, and data analytics.2 Additionally, KinetX specializes in the design, development, and operation of large-scale space systems including MUOS, Iridium, SGSS, and NorthStar.2 Accordingly, KinetX is the first private company qualified by NASA for deep space navigation.2 Headquartered in Temple, Arizona, KinetX has additional locations in California and Colorado and employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, KinetX reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the form breach notice, on or about August 2, 2024, KinetX learned that a data security incident had impacted its computer environment and sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized actor. In the breach notice, KinetX does not elaborate on the nature of the security incident that impacted its systems. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
On August 30, 2024, KinetX began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notices provided to the Massachusetts residents, KinetX is providing affected individuals with 24 months of identity theft protection services.
