MCB is a for profit community hospital based in Alabama. Founded in 1930, MCB provides a variety of medical services to individuals, including laboratory, radiology, emergency care, senior behavioral health, and inpatient services. Additionally, MCB offers a range of surgical procedures such as general surgery, GYN surgery, orthopedic surgery, and podiatry. Headquartered in Eufaula, Alabama, MCB has two additional family care clinics in Alabama and employs over 200 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, MCB announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on October 29, 2023, MCB became aware of suspicious activity within its network environment. As a result, MCB launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, MCB learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized actor. As a result, MCB began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On July 31, 2024, MCB completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license or state ID number
- Passport information
- Financial information
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
As a result of the data breach, MCB posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on August 22, 2024, MCB mailed data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice on its website, MCB will be providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and complementary credit monitoring services.
