WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Eckell Sparks reported to the Attorney General of Vermont that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on November 21, 2023, Eckell Sparks was the victim of a ransomware attack. As a result, Eckell Sparks launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Eckell Sparks learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized actor. As a result, Eckell Sparks began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
On August 19, 2024, Eckell Sparks began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notices provided to the Vermont residents, Eckell Sparks is providing affected individuals with 12 months of complimentary identity monitoring services.
