WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Ambulnz reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on April 22, 2024, Ambulnz became aware of unusual activity within its network environment. As a result, Ambulnz launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Ambulnz learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and taken by an unauthorized third party between April 21 and April 22, 2024. As a result, Ambulnz began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. In its review, Ambulnz determined that the unauthorized third party accessed information belonging to patients of hospitals it provides transportation services for, such as UCHealth. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Medical information (e.g., medical record number, patient account number, diagnosis and treatment information)
  • Health insurance identification number

Between June 20, 2024, and August 13, 2024, Ambulnz mailed data breach notification letters to impacted Healthcare Providers and began to notify affected individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to California residents, Ambulnz is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
