Carespring is a healthcare system based in Ohio. Founded in 1983, Carespring specializes in senior living care, offering healthcare services and living assistance to individuals. The services and living options provided by Carespring include skilled nursing, rehabilitation, nursing homes, independent living, assisted living, hemodialysis nursing care, and memory care facilities.3 Headquartered in Loveland, Ohio, Carespring has over 15 locations across Ohio and Kentucky and employs over 1,000 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Carespring reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on October 28, 2023, Carespring detected suspicious activity within its network environment. As a result, Carespring launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Carespring learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and taken by an unauthorized actor between October 12 and October 28, 2023. As a result, Carespring began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Driver’s license number
- Passport number
- Tax identification number
- Financial information
- Credit card information
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
On August 15, 2024, Carespring began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Carespring is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
