Unicoin Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Unicoin, Inc. regarding its recent data breach. The Unicoin data breach may have involved sensitive personal information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT UNICOIN, INC.:

Unicoin is a cryptocurrency company based in California. Founded in 2015, Unicoin was created as the solution to the extreme volatility of traditional cryptocurrencies backed with no assets.2 Accordingly, Unicoin is backed by equity stakes in emerging growth companies and real estate assets.2 Today, Unicoin is the official cryptocurrency of Unicorn Hunters, an investment platform that will spotlight emerging growth companies looking to hit the coveted $1B “unicorn” valuation mark, while rallying individual investors worldwide to help fund these breakout ventures.3 Headquartered in San Francisco, California, Unicoin employs over 50 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On August 9, 2024, Unicoin detected that an unknown threat actor had gained access to the Company’s Google G-Suite account and changed passwords of all users of the Company’s G-Suite products (i.e., G-Mail, G-Drive and other related G-Suite functionality), thereby denying access to all users having an “@unicoin.com” email address.1 Additionally, during a personal check of corporate users of internal services, Unicoin discovered discrepancies in the personal data of employees and/or contractors in its accounting department.1 In response, Unicoin began an investigation to determine the nature of scope of the incident.

On August 9, 2024, Unicoin reported the incident in a Form 8-K filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. As of August 15, 2024, Unicoin’s investigation is ongoing and whether personal information has been exposed has not been made publicly available by Unicoin.
