Fraser Child and Family Center Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Fraser Child and Family Center (“Fraser”) regarding its recent data breach. The Fraser data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to approximately 67,000 individuals.

Fraser is a non-profit mental healthcare organization based in Minnesota. Founded in 1935, Fraser provides comprehensive mental wellness support for individuals and families, including behavioral and mental health services, disability services, rehabilitation therapy services, educational services, and supportive housing. Additionally, Fraser is one of Minnesota’s largest and most experienced provider of autism and early childhood mental health services.2 This includes a full range of evidence-based service options that are individualized to each person’s level of need such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Positive Behavior Support, Positive Support Services, Intensive ABA, Day Treatment, ESDM, SCERTS-based Learn Talk Play, and specialty services.3 Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Fraser has five additional clinical locations, six satellite locations, and employs over 1,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Fraser announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on June 2, 2024, Fraser detected suspicious activity within its computer network. As a result, Fraser launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Fraser learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and taken by an unauthorized actor between May 30, 2024, and June 2, 2024. As a result, Fraser began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Medical information

 

As a result of the data breach, Fraser posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, Fraser plans to mail data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice on its website, Fraser will be providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
