Monte Nido Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Monte Nido regarding its recent data breach. The Monte Nido data breach involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to over 41,000 individuals.

ABOUT MONTE NIDO:

Monte Nido is a national mental health provider based in Florida. Founded in 1996, Monte Nido specializes in eating disorders and offers treatment for anorexia nervosa, atypical anorexia, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, orthorexia, ARFID, OSFED, EDDM, and co-occurring conditions. Additionally, Monte Nido conducts ongoing research, approved by an institutional review board, to assess treatment outcomes in its programs and continually improve its comprehensive care.3 Today, Monte Nido operates 50 programs and in 28 states virtually across its family of programs: Monte Nido, Monte Nido Walden, Monte Nido Rosewood, and Monte Nido Clementine.4 Headquartered in Miami, Florida, Monte Nido has 51 additional locations across the United States and employs over 1,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Monte Nido reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on September 22, 2023, Monte Nido detected suspicious activity within its computer network. As a result, Monte Nido launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Monte Nido learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and taken by an unauthorized actor between September 16 and September 22, 2023. As a result, Monte Nido began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:    

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Contact information (e.g., phone number, email address and password)
  • Driver’s license or government identification number
  • Individual taxpayer identification number
  • Passport number
  • Digital signature
  • Financial information (e.g., account number, routing number or password, credit and debit card number with password or security code)
  • Workers’ compensation claim information
  • Medical information (e.g., medical record number, patient account number, prescription information, dates of service, medical history, condition, treatment, or diagnosis certificate, and license number)
  • Health insurance information

 

As a result of the data breach, Monte Nido mailed data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to California residents, Monte Nido is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
