Founded in 1891, Local 1 allows members to bargain collectively with their employers over wages, benefits, and rights.2 Additionally, Local 1 offers programs to train and educate apprentices and journey-level electricians and telecommunications technicians to the highest level of quality, skill, integrity, value, and safety in the industry.3 Today, Local 1 represents over 7400 active members and retirees working in a variety of fields including construction, telecommunications, manufacturing, and government.3 Headquartered in Saint Louis, Missouri, Local 1 has three additional offices in Missouri.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Local 1 reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, Local 1 detected unauthorized access to its computer systems. As a result, Local 1 launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Local 1 learned that sensitive personal information may have been viewed and taken from its systems between March 31, 2024, and April 5, 2024. As a result, Local 1 began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On July 3, 2024, Local 1 completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
On August 5, 2024, Local 1 began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Local 1 is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
