Heart South Cardiovascular Group Data Breach Investigation

Headquartered in Alabaster, Alabama, Heart South has two additional locations in Alabama and employs over 50 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Heart South announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on May 30, 2024, Heart South detected unauthorized access to its computer systems. As a result, Heart South launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Heart South learned that sensitive personal information may have been viewed by an unauthorized actor between May 29 and May 30, 2024. As a result, Heart South began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Medical information (e.g., diagnosis/condition, lab results, medications, treatment information)

 

As a result of the data breach, Heart South plans to mail data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice posted on its website, Heart South is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
