Perry Johnson Mortgage Company Data Breach Investigation

PJMC is a mortgage lending company based in Michigan. Founded in 2021, PJMC provides a variety of mortgage loan options to homebuyers, including fixed-rate, adjustable rate, conforming, jumbo and super jumbo, FHA, VA, and USDA, and refinance. Additionally, PJMC offers free tools to customers such as pre-approval letters, refinance analysis, home value estimations, and home insurance quotes. Today, PJMC is licensed in 25 states. Headquartered in Troy, Michigan, PJMC employs over 10 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In May 2024, PJMC was informed that its IT administrative and technical support vendor had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to PJMC customers in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, the vendor determined that an unauthorized third party accessed this sensitive information between March 27, 2023, and May 2, 2023. On July 23, 2024, PJMC will begin notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by PJMC. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or state ID number
  • Account number, credit or debit card number
  • Account passwords or personal identification numbers or other access codes
