MNGI is a Twin Cities-based physician practice specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of adult and pediatric digestive system disorders.4 Today, many of MNGI’s physicians specialize in areas such as pediatrics, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), acid reflux, esophageal disorders, colon cancer prevention, liver and biliary tract disease, hepatitis and pancreatic disease.5 In addition to its regular outpatient clinics, MNGI has developed three comprehensive, multidisciplinary programs to address the unique needs of people with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, hepatitis/liver disease and acid reflux.5 MNGI currently owns and operates several outpatient clinics and endoscopy centers, which are located in Bloomington, Chanhassen, Coon Rapids, Eagan, Hudson, Lakeville, Maple Grove, Northeast Minneapolis, Plymouth, Vadnais Heights and Woodbury.4 Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, MNGI employs over 500 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On August 25, 2023, MNGI discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, MNGI determined that an unauthorized third party accessed this sensitive information on August 20, 2023. On July 15, 2024, MNGI began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license or state ID number
- Passport number
- Taxpayer ID number
- Financial information (e.g., account information, payment card information, usernames and associated passwords)
- Medical information
- Patient account numbers
- Health insurance information
