Medibase Data Breach Investigation

Founded in 1993, Medibase provides software solutions, technical assistance, and business office solutions to hospitals, health systems, and integrated delivery networks across the country.1 Accordingly, Medibase empowers clients to effectively manage their revenue cycle by improving MPI integrity and offering intuitive follow-up and collections tools.3 Today, Medibase offers a wide range of services, including MPI, archiving historical data, revenue cycle management, RME accounts, and epic bridge errors.3 Headquartered in Woodstock, Georgia, Medibase employs over 50 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Medibase discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Medibase determined that an unauthorized third party accessed this sensitive information on or around January 26, 2024. On July 5, 2024, Medibase began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Medical information (e.g., admit and discharge date, outstanding balance amounts) 
  • Health insurance information
