Gaia Software Data Breach Investigation

Founded in 1998, Gaia’s integrated Dialysis EHR Software is specifically designed to meet the unique needs of independent and hospital-based dialysis facilities for the delivery of quality patient care.3 In conjunction with its software solutions, Gaia provides expertise in dialysis billing by maintaining current account receivable balances, eliminating lost/dropped charges, or denied charges to maximize revenue and ROI.3 In addition, Gaia offers financial knowledge and guidance to support facility operations, regulatory compliance, and smart business decisions.3 Headquartered in Littleton, Colorado, Gaia employs over 10 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On or about February 5, 2024, Gaia discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Gaia determined that an unauthorized third party accessed this sensitive information on January 27, 2024. On June 28, 2024, Gaia began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Health information
  • Health insurance information
