Additionally, AMED provides professional EMS coverage for special events, visits schools to educate children about emergencies, and participates in community activities such as health fairs and community wellness programs.2 Presently, AMED operates ten ambulances, five wheelchair vans, one mass casualty trailer, and one command vehicle.2 Headquartered in Altoona, Pennsylvania, AMED employs over 80 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, AMED discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, AMED determined that an unauthorized third party accessed this sensitive information between March 8 and March 12, 2024. On June 21, 2024, AMED began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by AMED. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or state ID number
  • Account number, credit or debit card number
  • Account passwords or personal identification numbers or other access codes
