Today, SHR is committed to delivering comprehensive physical and mental health care of the highest standard to the 23 counties of East Texas.4 Accordingly, SHR provides healthcare services to East Texas through clinics serving Longview, Tyler, Paris, Texarkana and the surrounding smaller communities.4 SHR emerged from two programs joined in an effort to serve the rapidly growing HIV population of East Texas in 1989.4 What began two decades ago as an effort to serve that emerging HIV population of East Texas, has now expanded into full service clinics offering a wide variety of healthcare services.4 In addition to its HIV Screening and Treatment Services, SHR also provides its patients with Adult and Pediatric Primary Care, OB/GYN and Maternity, Dental Care, Vaccination and Immunization, as well as treatment for Substance Abuse and Mental Health.4 Headquartered in Longview, Texas, SHR employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, it was reported by multiple online sources that SHR had experienced a ransomware attack impacting the privacy of its customers’ personal information. On June 2, SHR posted on its Facebook saying it is experiencing technical difficulties, and on June 10 it posted another statement on its Facebook and website saying, “We are currently experiencing a network incident that has caused a temporary disruption to our phone and computer systems, but we are STILL OPEN and seeing new and established patients as walk-in visits.”4 As of June 11, 2024, SHR has not disclosed the specific nature of the cybersecurity incident or confirmed whether the incident resulted in a data breach.
