Malouf Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating CVB, Inc., which does business as Malouf Companies (“Malouf”), regarding its recent data breach. The Malouf data breach may have involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

Malouf is a consumer goods company based in Utah. Founded in 2003, Malouf’s core business is home furnishings, but has grown into six key categories (consumer products, services, technology, retail, logistics, and venture) through a suite of nationally recognized brands and powerful partnerships.2 Today, Malouf sells a product every 2.6 seconds and ships more than 33,000 products a day through its variety of brands.3 Headquartered in South Logan, Utah, Malouf employs over 1,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On February 7, 2024, Malouf discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Malouf determined that an unauthorized actor gained access to this sensitive information between September 18, 2023, and February 8, 2024. On May 23, 2024, Malouf began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Malouf. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or state ID number
  • Taxpayer ID number
  • Passport number
  • Financial account or credit or debit card number
  • Password or access code for financial account
  • Unique biometric data
  • Genetic information
  • Medical information (e.g., health records, medical diagnosis or treatment information)
  • Health insurance policy number
