First Bank of Alabama Data Breach Investigation

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, FBAL discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, FBAL determined that an unauthorized actor gained access to this sensitive information between October 3 and October 5, 2023. On May 24, 2024, FBAL began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by FBAL. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or state ID number
  • Taxpayer ID number
  • Passport number
  • Financial account or credit or debit card number
  • Password or access code for financial account
  • Unique biometric data
  • Genetic information
  • Medical information (e.g., health records, medical diagnosis or treatment information)
  • Health insurance policy number
