Strauss Borrelli PLLCa leading data breach law firm, is investigating Transamerica Life Insurance Company (“TLIC”) regarding its recent data breach. The TLIC data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

TLIC is a financial service and insurance provider based in Maryland. Today, TLIC serves over 10 million customers and has more than $400 billion in revenue-generating investments.4 Headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, TLIC employs over 5,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, TLIC was informed that its third-party administrator, WebTPA, Employer Services, LLC (“WebTPA”), had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to TLIC customers may have been accessed. Through its investigation, WebTPA determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through a VPN connection from March 6, 2023 to May 12, 2023. On May 9, 2024, TLIC began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Subscriber number
  • Member number
  • Individual identification number
  • Employee identification number
