Strauss Borrelli PLLCa leading data breach law firm, is investigating Surety HR, Inc. (“Surety HR”), an affiliate of Spooner Risk Control Services, Inc. (“Spooner”) regarding its recent data breach. The Surety HR data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT SURETY HR, INC.:

Surety HR is a professional employer organization and is part of the Spooner Risk Control family of companies.2 Founded in 2017, Surety HR was created to remove the obstacles in the way of employer profits.2 Today, Surety HR offers a full range of services, including Human Resources, Payroll, Workers’ Compensation, OSHA/Safety, Benefits and 401(k).2 Headquartered in Westlake, Ohio, Surety HR employs over 50 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On January 31, 2024, Surety HR discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Surety HR determined that an unauthorized party may have accessed this sensitive information from January 16 to January 28, 2024. On May 7, 2024, Surety HR began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Bank account and routing information
