Strauss Borrelli PLLCa leading data breach law firm, is investigating Liberty University regarding its recent data breach. The Liberty University data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 5,400 individuals.

ABOUT LIBERTY UNIVERSITY:

Liberty University is a private Christian college located in Lynchburg, Virginia. Founded in 1971, Liberty University offers a variety of majors, minors, graduate, and associate degrees spanning a variety of academic interests, including accounting, arts, business, communications, computer science, education, law, music, political science, history, science, and sociology. Competing in Division I of the NCAA as the Flames, Liberty University has 20 intercollegiate varsity teams and a total enrollment of over 130,500 students.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On November 17, 2023, Liberty University was informed that it’s third-party vendor, Athletic Trainer System (“ATS”) had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to Liberty University may have been accessed. Through its investigation, ATS determined that an unauthorized party may have accessed this sensitive information in February and October of 2020. On April 29, 2024, Liberty University began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
