Physicians to Women Data Breach Investigation

Founded in 1940, Physicians to Women specializes in obstetric and gynecologic care for patients in Roanoke and the outlying areas of Roanoke Valley, Salem, Vinton, Botetourt, and Franklin County.3 Today, Physicians to Women provides a wide range of women’s care services, including regular exams, maternity care, birth control counseling, Botox, onsite digital Mammography screening, family planning/preconception counseling, infertility testing and treatment, laboratory services, and liposuction. Located in Roanoke, Virginia, Physicians to Women has one location and employs over 50 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Physicians to Women discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Physicians to Women determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through its network on April 4, 2023. On January 26, 2024, Physicians to Women began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Financial account information
  • Medical information
