WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Hanmi Bank was notified that its third-party vendor, Fiserv, had experienced a data breach in which Hanmi Bank data, including sensitive personal identifiable information, may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Fiserv determined that an unauthorized party may have accessed this sensitive information through a vulnerability in the MOVEit Transfer file sharing software, which Fiserv uses, between May 27 and May 31, 2023. In January 2024, Hanmi Bank began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Hanmi Bank. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license or state-issued identification number
- Financial information (e.g., financial account number, credit or debit card number)
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
- Unique biometric data
- Genetic data
