American Meat Companies Data Breach Investigation

AMC is a meat purveyor based in Texas. With over 100 employees involved in portioning, grinding, and boning, AMC produces a full line of steaks, hamburger patties, pork chops, and poultry items, made to customer specifications.3 Founded in 1975, AMC started its operations with a small meat locker in Anaheim, California, before moving into a 40,000 square foot facility in Pico Rivera, California. Today, AMC is one of the largest meat purveyors in Southern California and has expanded to a brand new state-of-the-art facility located inside the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport grounds.Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, AMC employs more than 100 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On November 20, 2023, AMC discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which personal identifiable information and sensitive health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, AMC determined that an unauthorized party may have accessed and acquired this sensitive information on or around July 19, 2023. On January 10, 2024, AMC began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license or government-issued ID number
  • Financial information (e.g., account number, credit or debit card number)
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information
