Headquartered in Springfield, Illinois, Hospital Sisters Health System employs over 13,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On or around August 29, 2023, Hospital Sisters Health System discovered that it had experienced a data breach that impacted its systems. Through its investigation, Hospital Sisters Health System determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and acquired certain information from the impacted systems. On October 26, 2023, Hospital Sisters Health System notified the U.S Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (“HHS”) of the incident. Though much information is still not known about the Hospital Sisters Health System breach, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ reporting guidelines require entities to report data breaches when they involve protected health information. Therefore, it is likely that the Hospital Sisters Health System breach included protected health information.
