Perry Johnson & Associates Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Perry Johnson & Associates, Inc., which does business as PJ&A, regarding its recent data breach. The PJ&A data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT PERRY JOHNSON & ASSOCIATES, INC.:

PJ&A is medical transcription and reporting company. Working primarily with healthcare companies, PJ&A provides applications and tools for websites, including medical transcription and reporting, translation, virtual scribe, and e-signature. Included in PJ&A’s list of clients that it provides medical transcription services to is Cook County Health, which operates John H. Stroger, Jr Hospital and Provident Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Headquartered in Henderson, Nevada, PJ&A services clients across the United States and employs over 1,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On July 21, 2023, PJ&A informed one of its clients, Cook County Health, that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems, including information belonging to Cook County Health, may have been accessed. Through its investigation, PJ&A determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information in April 2023. Recently, Cook County Health posted a notice of the data breach on its website explaining that it would be notifying impacted individuals as soon as possible. At this time, it is believed that the type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Medical record number
  • Medical information
