ABOUT CARING COMMUNITIES:

Caring Communities is an insurance company exclusively providing insurance products and services to not-for-profit senior housing and care organizations.2 Headquartered in Libertyville, Illinois, Caring Communities offers memberships instead of the typical annual insurance model. In addition to insurance services, Caring Communities offers its members risk management plans, assessment tools, staff education, claims handling, and financial returns and ownership. Founded in 2002 when twenty not-for-profit senior housing and care organizations joined forces to create Caring Communities. Today, Caring Communities is owned and governed by its more than 70 member organizations.2

WHAT HAPPENED?

On June 6, 2023, Caring Communities discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Caring Communities determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through a vulnerability in the MOVEit file sharing platform. On September 26, 2023, Caring Communities began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
