Headquartered in Lead, South Dakota, Coeur Wharf encompasses 7,852 net acres of land throughout the Black Hills of western South Dakota.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In March 2023, Coeur Wharf discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Coeur Wharf determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through one of its email accounts. On August 9, 2023, Coeur Wharf began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The exact type of personal information has not been disclosed by Coeur Wharf. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license or identification number
- Financial information
- Medical information
- Taxpayer information
- Personal identification number issued by the United States IRS
