CentroMed Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating El Centro Del Barrio, which does business as CentroMed, regarding its recent data breach. The CentroMed data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 350,000 individuals.

ABOUT EL CENTRO DEL BARRIO D/B/A CENTROMED:

CentroMed is a non-profit organization that provides health care across the greater San Antonio area. Founded in 1971, CentroMed began as a counseling program for children and adolescents which aimed to increase the number of Mexican-American social workers in San Antonio’s Westside and southside barrios. Today, CentroMed comprises a network of healthcare clinics that offer full service primary health and dental care. With a focus on culturally competent care, CentroMed strives to make its services accessible to people of all races, ages, and socioeconomic statuses.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On June 12, 2023, CentroMed discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, CentroMed determined that an unauthorized actor may have gained access to this sensitive information on June 9, 2023. On August 11, 2023, CentroMed began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Financial account information
  • Medical records number
  • Health insurance plan member ID
  • Claims data (including diagnoses listed on claims)
