Delaware Life Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Group 1001 d/b/a Delaware Life Insurance Company regarding its recent data breach. The Delaware Life data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

Delaware Life is an insurance company specializing in retirement services and long-term financial goals. Founded in 2013, Delaware Life is a subsidiary of Group 1001 Insurance Holdings, LLC (“Group 1001”), a technology driven financial services company.  Among the products offered by Delaware Life are fixed index annuities, multi-year guaranteed annuities, and variable annuities. As of April 2023, Delaware Life surpassed $20 billion in cumulative annuity sales. 

WHAT HAPPENED?

On February 9, 2023, Group 1001, the parent company of Delaware Life, discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and obtained. Through its investigation, Group 1001 determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and acquired this sensitive information through a ransomware attack. On July 28, 2023, Group 1001 began notifying Delaware Life clients whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes: 

  • Name  
  • Social Security number  
  • Date of Birth 
  • Address 
  • Contract or policy number 
  • Financial information (e.g., account number, credit or debit card number)
