WHAT HAPPENED?

On February 9, 2023, Clear Spring Life and Annuity Company discovered that it experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Clear Spring Life and Annuity Company determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and obtained this sensitive information by launching a ransomware attack on February 9, 2023. On July 13, 2023, Clear Spring Life and Annuity Company notified its partner company, First Security Benefit Life Insurance and Annuity Company of New York, that the ransomware incident may have impacted First Security Benefit Life Insurance and Annuity Company of New York’s clients. On July 28, 2023, Clear Spring Life and Annuity Company began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Policy or contract number
