GuidePoint Security Data Breach Investigation

GuidePoint Security is a cybersecurity consulting company. Founded in 2011, GuidePoint Security provides a wide range of services including risk assessment, network and infrastructure security, penetration testing, and incident response. Among GuidePoint Security’s experts are veterans from the Department of Defense, Intel Communities, and Fortune 500 companies. With expertise in both offensive and defensive security, GuidePoint Security advises over half of the cabinet-level agencies in the U.S. Federal Government.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On June 1, 2023, Vitality, a third-party vender of GuidePoint Security, discovered that it experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information of GuidePoint Security employees may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Vitality determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through a vulnerability in the MOVEit file transfer platform used by Vitality on May 30, 2023. In July 2023, Vitality began contacting GuidePoint Security employees whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Mailing address
  • Date of birth
