WHAT HAPPENED?
On January 26, 2023, Webster Bank learned that one of its vendors, Guardian Analytics, had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Guardian Analytics learned that sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to Webster Bank’s customers had been impacted. Webster Bank conducted its own investigation and determined that sensitive information belonging to Webster Bank’s customers had been posted on the dark web. Later, Guardian Analytics determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and acquired this sensitive information between November 27, 2022, and January 17, 2023. On April 10, 2023, Webster Bank began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Financial account numbers
