Evergreen Treatment Services Data Breach Investigation

ETS is a non-profit addiction counseling and rehabilitation system in Washington. Founded in 1973, ETS seeks to address substance use disorders and homelessness by offering medication, counseling, primary care, affordable housing options, and a variety of social service resources. Over the years, ETS has specifically focused on treating opioid use in Western Washington, serving nearly 3,000 patients each day. Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, ETS operates three clinics in Renton, Olympia, and Seattle, Washington, with an additional facility targeting on-the-street outreach initiatives. ETS employs more than 200 individuals and manages approximately $11 million in total assets.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, ETS discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, ETS determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information. On February 13, 2023, ETS began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Medical information (e.g., treatment information)
