Brooks Rehabilitation Pixel Data Breach Investigation

WHAT HAPPENED?

On January 31, 2023, Brooks Rehabilitation reported a data breach impacting more than 1,500 people to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights. Brooks Rehabilitation had previously discovered this data breach in December 2022. Brooks Rehabilitation disclosed that an online tracking pixel installed on its website collected and transmitted this protected health information to the third parties providing the pixel technology, including Meta (Facebook) and Google. In December 2022, Brooks Rehabilitation began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information impacted may have included:

  • Name
  • Contact information (e.g., phone number, email address)
  • Computer IP address
  • Communications with individuals through MyChart
