Ethos Technologies Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Ethos Technologies Inc., which does business as Ethos, regarding its recent data breach. The Ethos data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 33,000 individuals.

ABOUT ETHOS TECHNOLOGIES INC.:

Ethos is a San Francisco-based technology company that aims to simplify the process of obtaining life insurance. Founded in 2016 by Peter Colis and Lingke Wang as a response to a negative experience with traditional life insurance, Ethos eliminates unnecessary difficulties in the life insurance application process. Every month, Ethos issues billions in coverage on policies used by Legal & General America. Since its founding, Ethos has raised over $400 million in investment capital and employs over 200 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On December 8, 2022, Ethos discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Ethos determined that an unauthorized actor may have obtained social security numbers by entering information about individuals into Ethos’ online application process and obtaining those individuals’ social security numbers between August 4, 2022 and December 9, 2022. Majority of the individuals impacted by this data breach were not existing Ethos customers. On December 21, 2022, Ethos began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:
