LifeSpire Services Data Breach Investigation

LifeSpire Services is a healthcare provider that specializes in assisting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Founded in 1951, LifeSpire Services grew out of the belief that those with disabilities should be able to live fulfilling lives and have the right to learn skills and further their education. As such, LifeSpire Services offers day habilitation programs, residential services, family support opportunities, and more. Headquartered in New York, New York, LifeSpire Services helps approximately 5,000 individuals each week.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On February 8, 2022, LifeSpire Services discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, LifeSpire Services determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information between January 14 and February 8, 2022. On October 7, 2022, LifeSpire Services began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Date of birth
  • Passport number
  • Health insurance number
  • Bank account information
  • Credit card information
  • Medical information (e.g., diagnosis or treatment information, Medicare or Medicaid numbers)
