WHAT HAPPENED?

On October 14, 2022, Advocate Aurora Health reported a data breach impacting approximately 3,000,000 people to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Offices of Civil Rights. The data breach involved the protected health information in Advocate Aurora Health’s electronic medical records. Advocate Aurora Health disclosed that an online information tracking pixel installed on its website collected and transmitted this protected health information to the third parties providing the pixel technology, including Meta (Facebook) and Google. Recently, Advocate Aurora Health began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information impacted includes:

  • Name
  • Medical record number
  • Dates, times, and/or locations of scheduled appointments
  • Provider information
  • Type of appointment or procedure
  • Communications with individuals through MyChart
